After DJ Outrage's onslaught of Mixes I decided that it was time for me to represent. I've been fiddling with various combinations of songs similar to the one presented in this mix for a little while, settling on my favorite over the weekend. Here's what I recorded tonight. No edits. All vinyl/turntables. Live as it happened. Some stuff you've heard and some you haven't. Mostly hip hop with a teensy bit of R&B and dancehall thrown in. Tempo picks up about half way through. Share and enjoy.

Thanks a lot! Please do download the whole thing as the second half is way cool. Definitely looking for more mixes from you. Flavor of the Old School was awesome.

5 months.
I've had turntables for 3 years but haven't really gottten the hang of mixing and (especially) scratching propperly until November or so. I've been scratching for a lot of that time and that gave me the energy to start mixing again. Scratching is my favorite part. It's not very evident in this mix because I like to keep my mixes pretty smooth and I don't have a lot of doubles so I don't repeat the same section over or anything like that (even if I did have doubles I wouldn't do that so much, prefering to scratch in the next section of the song or something to that effect). You'd beat me with techno/d&b. my vinyl collection will be limited to hip hop/pop/disco/funk for the forseeable future. When I get serato I will certainly branch out into other teratory. That or when I learn about d&b and what to buy. I only know what hip hop to buy thanks to music blogs and youtube. It is true that illegal downloading of files helps some such as myself to learn what is worth buying. If only record companies would realize that (or change their business model etc etc).

d and b wise, i can sure help you there lol i tend to go for the more heavy stuff, dj hazard, modified motion, clipz etc type some of those guys into youtue and see what comes up lol

it's an interesting point, that. I have some cd decks and download a lot of music to play on them, but i'm way too much of a scratch dj to use them often.

litle bit of advice: get something you can feel, stickers bumps or something and stick them just before the groove you want to scratch with. that way, even if you don't have doubles you can pritty much make it sound like you do by dragging the needle back until it hits the object each time. takes a lot of mastering though. also get some batle breaks records. the best ones for beats are those dirtstyle ones, trust me they are the shit, or the dj rectangle ones. Get a couple of coppies of one of those and you'll soon have turntablism down pat man, especially if you can already scratch as well as i heard you there.
